Kings Cross GHQ

Project Introduction

The challenge is to prepare the site terrain for the new Iconic £1bn Google Headquarters at King’s Cross in London. The 11-storey building will be more than one million square feet of which Google will occupy 650,000 sqft. It will be home of 4,000 Googlers on completion.

The Galldris Difference

Galldris was awarded the remediation package, this included reduce level dig, Pile probing, Installation of a Pile Mat and Installation of Sheet Piling and associated Ground Anchors.

This was delivered in 3 overlapping stages. Stage 1 was North based. Stage 2 was central based and stage 3 was south based. Key issues for the site included plant and machinery access in the heavily pedestrian area of Kings Cross. The site being next to a live rail, Kings Cross station made us vigilant of the potential contact with buried services required for the operation of Kings Cross.

Kings Cross GHQ

Outlook

The first, wholly owned and designed Google building outside the US. Plans for the building show a wellness centre containing gyms, massage rooms a narrow swimming pool and multi-use indoor sports pitch, and a rooftop garden split over multiple storeys and themed around three areas: a 'plateau', 'gardens' and 'fields', planted with strawberries, gooseberries and sage. A 200-metre-long trim trail runs through the roof, while peckish employees can grab food in one of four cafes, including a main one which spans three stories with a promenade with views of the station.
