BACKGROUND PROJECT INFO

Tesco has relocated its head office to Welwyn Garden City to avail of the high-quality facilities at it’s Tesco Heart complex. The new building of approximately 6,600m², built for staff, customers and suppliers to meet and collaborate. The building welcome visitors from all directions via landscaped approaches and create a new focal point at Tesco’s Shire Park campus. Galldris are Proud to have played pivotal role in the creation of this beautiful unusual building.

THE CHALLENGE

From the onset Galldris have worked the site from demolition, remediation, to pile capping, excavation of basement, including temporary works, we built the RC frame, we steel fixed and concreted the floors, built the internal lift and stairs cores, precision cast the interior walls to a high quality exposed concrete finish which is an outstanding architectural feature of the build. We installed utilities and services ducting and drainage. Finishing the exterior with a tarmacked car park, and custom pattern hard landscape paving throughout.

Outlook

Project Heart creates a new and exciting central hub at the heart of Tesco’s Shire Park campus, providing flexible spaces for staff to learn, collaborate and innovate, facilities for staff well-being, and a customer experience centre.The development provides an opportunity to host events, promote new initiatives and showcase products. Core to the building’s function is its central circulation & atrium space: an open, multi- functional, communal space for events, presentations, collaborating and socialising that acts as the building’s focal point.
